FOR MUM
Dir: Julie Mayhew
UK 3mins

“What do I love most about my mum? God. I wish that wasn’t such a difficult
question to answer…” A Super 8 short that melds reportage voices with stylised
acting tableaus to explore one of the most wonderful and difficult relationships of our
lives. Made as part of the Straight 8 initiative, where you shoot your whole film on
one cartridge of super 8 film, no re-takes, no editing, no grade, no post-production at
all. Even the soundtrack is made ‘blind’.

Local filmmaker. Documentary

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN
Dir: Jack Peter Mundy
UK 25mins

Teenager James, struggles to cope with the disappearance of his older brother
Sean. Six months on, their father, John, lives in denial, while James finds some
comfort in seeing and talking to visions of Sean. Just when James feels his life is
unbearable, with his family broken, he finds a reason to be hopeful when he starts a
school project with Danny.

Local filmmaker. Drama. World premiere

THE GOOD FIGHT
Dir: Julie Mayhew
UK 2mins

“You have to be willing to fight!” A super-short, Super 8 parable on the power of
protest – and the strange disappointment of getting what you want, conceived as a
playful response to Rebecca Solnit’s powerful words in Hope In The Dark: “Some
activists are afraid that if we acknowledge victory, people will give up the struggle.
I’ve long been more afraid that people will give up and go home or never get started
in the first place if they think no victory is possible or fail to recognise the victories
already achieved.”

Local filmmaker. Comedy.

VERY HAPPY SKATER
Dir: Madeleine Jullian
UK/Canada 7mins

Spanning nearly two decades of footage, Very Happy Skater follows the groove of an
edge in the ice. Or is it just some videos of a girl skating?

Local filmmaker. Documentary.
